Before traveling to Canada, you must get a Traveler’s Relative Canada Visa (TRV) before leaving your home country. You cannot apply for a TRV at the airport, once you are in Canada. If you would like to stay longer than your visa allows, you must apply for an extension. To do so, you must fill out the IMM 5708 Form. Although a visitor record in Canada is required for entry into Canada, it does not guarantee entry.
Vaccinations required
Travelers to Canada are now permitted to enter without a Canada Visa if they have completed certain vaccinations. This is good news for US citizens, Green Card Holders, and most European citizens. Those who wish to enter the country must have all necessary vaccinations at least two weeks before their trip. Children under the age of 12 are exempt from vaccination requirements, but they must still complete a Day-8 PCR test and meet certain other health requirements. For more information about the requirements, visit the Government of Canada’s travel pages.

Letter of consent from non-travelling parent required
If you are planning to bring a child along on your trip, you must provide a letter of consent from the non-travelling parent. The letter of consent must be in English or French and a certified copy of the original must be submitted. You cannot conduct the translation yourself or have a relative do it. To ensure accuracy, you should use the services of a certified translator who is a member of a Canadian association of translators or interpreters and can verify the language proficiency of the applicant.
Exemptions from giving biometrics
There are some exemptions from giving biometrics when applying for your Canada Visa online. Those who are U.S. citizens, U.K. nationals, and permanent residents are not required to submit biometrics. However, the process for permanent residence applicants requires you to submit your biometrics within a few days of receiving the Biometric Instruction Letter.

Duration of stay in Canada
If you are planning a visit to Vancouver, you’ll need to know the duration of stay in Canada. While Canadian visas are good for up to three years, you need to remember that your passport expiration date will not always be the same. If you plan to stay in Canada for more than three months, you will have to apply for an extension. For example, if you’re planning to visit Vancouver for a month, you can apply for an extension of your visitor status for another six months.
